This time, we interviewed the three of them, who came to Osaka for the album release event! They answered various questions about the album, of course, but also about the number "3" in commemoration of the 9th anniversary.
(Interviewed at Joshin Nihonbashi store on April 4th)
●To celebrate the 9th anniversary of their formation, we asked them some questions related to the number "9"...
--Please introduce yourself!
Kumazawa: We...
3 people: Task have Fun!
Shiraoka: Yay! I'm Shiraoka Kyoka!
Kumazawa: Yay! I'm Kumazawa Fuuka!
Satonaka: Yay! I'm Satonaka Natsuki!
All three: Thank you very much!
--Nice to meet you! When you introduce yourself, you say "Yay!" instead of "Yes!" before saying your name, which is so unique to you. I've always loved your attitude of trying to differentiate yourself from other groups. You were a middle school student when you debuted, and on May 5th you'll be celebrating your 28th anniversary, so congratulations!
3 people: Thank you!
-How do you feel right now?
Shiraoka: I have a lot of memories, but it just went by so quickly. I can't believe it's been nine years already. I say this every year (laughs).
Kumazawa: When I debuted, I never thought about how long I would continue, but I think the reason I've been able to continue this far is because so many people have loved me, so I'm very happy about that.
Satonaka: I think the reason we've been able to continue for nine years with the same members is because of the support of many people and the good friendship between the members, so I hope we'll all continue to work hard together.
--To commemorate the 9th anniversary, we have prepared a question with the number "9" in it, so we would like you to answer that question by drawing lots. Please draw Natsuki-chan.
Satonaka: <If you were to go on a nine-day trip, where would you like to go?> I would go to Okinawa. I go to Okinawa every year with friends, but I've never stayed there for nine days, so I think it would be nice to spend some time alone, relaxing and feeling refreshed.
Kumazawa: I want to go to Switzerland. I went to Paris for work in 2019, and I fell in love with the charm of Europe, so I went to Paris again and also to Italy. I haven't been to Switzerland yet, so I'd like to take a train there and enjoy the nature.
Shiraoka: I want to go to Turkey. There is a tourist spot called Cappadocia that is famous for its hot air balloons, and I want to go there at least once in my life.
--If it happens, please let us know on social media! Next, Fuka-chan, please pull.
Kumazawa: What would you eat as your ninth dish at a conveyor-belt sushi restaurant? I usually eat the same three or four kinds of food on a loop, but if I were to eat a ninth dish, I think it would be whelk.
Shiraoka: My favorite dish at conveyor belt sushi restaurants is the squid and okra gunkan, so I'll have that as my ninth dish.
Satonaka: I wonder if I could eat nine plates? (laughs) I like Engawa, so I would like to have it as the final dish.
--Everyone, you picked some serious items (laughs). Next up, Hana-chan, please draw yours.
Shiraoka: What do you do that you don't get bored of doing for 9 hours straight? I think I could go on for 9 hours if I were to look at social media on my smartphone. I use Instagram to look up shops I want to go to.
Satonaka: I think I could watch TikTok for nine hours straight. Even when I'm on the bullet train, I watch TikTok, and before I know it, I've arrived at my destination.
Kumazawa: I think it's dancing. I learned cheer dancing from a young age, and when I quit that I started being an idol, so I've been dancing my whole life. There are times when I dance for long periods of time, like when rehearsing for Task's solo live show, so I think I could easily do nine hours.
--You don't dance for nine hours straight, do you?
Kumazawa: I'd like to take a break. About 2 to 3 hours (laughs).
Satonaka: You take quite a bit of time off (laughs)
-- Now, let's move on to the second round. Natsuki-chan, please pull.
Satonaka: <Do you have more than nine unread LINE messages right now?> I don't. I hate it when LINE notifications pile up, so I try not to let them pile up.
Kumazawa: (Checking his phone) There were 295 (laughs). But I reply to messages from work and friends right away. There are a lot of official LINE notifications (from companies, etc.) piling up.
Shiraoka: I have about 3000...
Kumazawa: (laughs)
Satonaka: That's too much (laughs)
Shiraoka: I also had a lot of official LINE messages, and when I had several hundred of them I lost interest in opening them, so I just let them pile up and by then the number had grown to about 3000 (laughs).
-- It was actually four digits (laughs). Next, Fuka-chan, please draw.
Kumazawa: What would you do if you were offered a job to run a 9km marathon? I would run if I could get a reward after running (laughs). If I could eat delicious meat!
Shiraoka: I'm not really into running... I was terrible at long-distance running even when I was a student, so I'll have to decline (laughs).
Satonaka: If someone says "You don't have to run," I'll say "Sorry," and decline, but if they say "I want you to run!", I'll run! However, I'm afraid that this might lead to a request, so I'll try not to run as much as possible (laughs).
--If there was a reward, only Fuka-chan would run (laughs). Today, Fuka-chan, please draw the last question.
Shiraoka: What do you do at 9am on your day off? Isn't it the same for everyone? Let's go...
3 people: Sleeping!
--Everyone was still sleeping (laughs). What time do you get up?
Shiraoka: Around 15 or 16 o'clock.
Satonaka: That's crazy (laughs)
Shiraoka: Because I can sleep for about 14 hours.
Satonaka: For me, it's around 11 or 12 o'clock. I wake up when I get hungry (laughs).
Kumazawa: I also wake up around 11, but then I wake up around 7, savoring the happiness of still being able to sleep, and go back to sleep (laughs).
●The new album also includes songs for which the members have written lyrics for the first time!
--On March 9th, just before the 3th anniversary of your formation, you released a new album, "Have Fun Days," with 19 songs! What are the highlights of the album?
Shiraoka: This is my third album, and I think there are a lot of songs with a mature feel overall. I tried to sing songs that I could only sing after nine years of being in the industry, so I hope you will listen to them.
--Please tell us each of your members' favorite songs.
Satonaka: My favorite is "Tears Overflowing This Night." It was written by Good Morning America (Kanehiro Shingo), so it's the most rock song in Task's history. I studied how to sing in a rock style, so please pay attention to that when you listen!
Kumazawa: Mine is "Merikuru?" Task has a few spring and summer songs, but no winter songs, so I'm really happy to have a Christmas song. The lyrics are cute and it has bell sounds in it, so I hope you'll listen to that too.
Shiraoka: For me it's "Only one". I loved the melody from the moment I received the demo and thought it was a great song. It's a song that shines in live performances, so I think it will continue to grow if more people get to know it.
--The album also includes "Hey! Diary," for which all the members wrote the lyrics.
Shiraoka: This song was born from a project where we tried writing lyrics and made a theme song for our regular show "Task have Fun Diary" (TV Asahi Video). The song was already done, so we were just thinking of the lyrics, but we thought the last phrase of the chorus could be the title, so we came up with the phrase "Hey! Diary" to tie in with the show's title, and that became the title.
Kumazawa: It was my first time trying to write lyrics, but I didn't have a good vocabulary and I couldn't find the words to express what I was thinking, so I looked at the lyrics of songs by various artists and studied them as I wrote the lyrics.
Satonaka: I had to finish the lyrics in about three hours, so thinking about what theme I wanted to use and adding words that seemed to fit was a really difficult task.
●The 5th anniversary tour begins in May! And we're heading into the 9th anniversary year!
--Your 5th anniversary tour starts on May 10th! Please tell us about your enthusiasm.
Shiraoka: We do our anniversary tour at this time every year, but this year we've just released our album, so we'd like to give you all some fun new songs while also delivering a hot, Task-like performance.
Kumazawa: I think people will be able to enjoy some improvisation that's a little different from our usual live shows, and I hope we can further build on the sense of unity that has always been so important to us at live shows.
Satonaka: Since the title of the tour is "THIS IS TASK," we want to bring out the Task-ness in all its glory, and we want the concert to make everyone who watches it think, "I want to support Task!"
--The final show of the 9th anniversary tour will be held at Zepp Shinjuku on May 5th. That's the anniversary of Task's debut live show (May 28th, 2016).
Shiraoka: I hope we can all celebrate in a big way.
--On June 10th, 6 days after the tour finale, you will be holding a solo live concert to kick off your 7th anniversary. And the venue will be Hibiya Open-Air Concert Hall!
Satonaka: I want to get off to a good start towards our 10th anniversary, so I want to fill the venue with people!
Kumazawa: This is the first time we've held a solo concert at Hibiya Open-Air Concert Hall, so we were very happy when it was decided. Tickets are 1000 yen, so we hope you'll come and join us.
Shiraoka: I think the 10th anniversary will be a very important year for us, so I want to put in the effort and put on a concert that shows we're going to run through this 10th anniversary year!
-Finally, please give a message to our readers!
Satonaka: I think the best way to appreciate Task is to perform live, so I hope you will come and see us perform live at least once!
Kumazawa: It's been nine years since our debut, and we've evolved so much, we hope as many people as possible will come and see us!
Shiraoka: Even if you haven't seen a Task live performance yet, we hope you will come and support Task in their 10th year!
