ITTY Corporation (Head office: Minato-ku, Tokyo) held an experiential presentation to commemorate the release of the "Kumo no Yasuragi Premium Mattress II." Maomi Yuuki, a celebrity and Pilates instructor, appeared as a guest and introduced "easy exercises you can do in bed."
The new product, scheduled to be released on Friday, March 3th, is an improved version of the "Cloud Comfort Premium Mattress" released in December 14, based on customer feedback. It has a unique structure with an "Advanced Distributed Structure" that disperses body pressure and a "Melty Cloud Layer" that creates a blissful sleeping experience, making it possible to care for various physical noises that disturb sleep.
At the start of the press conference, ITTY Corporation President and CEO Masahiko Ozaki said, "Our new mattress is finally complete. It took a lot of trial and error before we could complete it, but that is why we are so confident in the product. We spend one-third of our lives sleeping. We need products that turn this into a positive experience. We hope that this will provide you with the ultimate in relaxation."
Next, Matsui Kohei, President of Shikoku Seni Hanbai Co., Ltd., the company in charge of manufacturing, explained the mattress' five-layer structure and introduced its performance, saying, "In order to pursue the ultimate in comfort, the mattress is equipped with a newly developed gradation support system made from high-density urethane material for the inner material. This means that the mattress gradually gets harder from the surface that touches the body towards the floor, allowing it to fit perfectly to people of all body types."
Then, Yuuki-san appeared in a spring-forward outfit and said, "It's the first day of spring, and it's windy and chilly, but I've been anticipating spring in my heart. I'm the type of person who values sleep very much, so I was really looking forward to today's meeting." Yuuki-san, a mother of two, reflected, "After giving birth, I would wake up to breastfeed, and I realized that if I couldn't sleep for days on end, I would get sick," and revealed what prompted her to start thinking about sleep, saying, "After raising children, I've come to value sleep even more."
When asked about her daily routine before going to sleep, she replied, "I try to keep my bath time relatively consistent. I also work backwards and try to avoid blue light exposure one or two hours before going to sleep. My kids like to look at their smartphones to unwind after school, but I make rules about what time they should be on their phones, and I'm careful about that."
As this was an experiential presentation, there was also a corner where people could actually experience the new products. First, Shinagawa, head of the Direct Marketing Division at ITTY Inc. and responsible for product planning, explained the background to the development, saying, "People spend one-third of their day asleep. They say we are living in an era where we can expect to live to be 1 years old, but (the "Kumo no Yasuragi Premium Mattress") is being purchased by many people in their 3s and 1s, who still have more than half their life left. We thought it would be no good if sleeping was a painful experience, so we made it to deliver the ultimate sleep." Matsui, who was in charge of production, explained the background to the development, saying, "We combined dozens of different types of filling materials and tried sleeping on them repeatedly. It took more than six months to select the filling materials, so it's a mattress that we were very particular about."
When Yuki sat on the product, which is full of carefully crafted products, she reacted by saying, "It feels so fluffy and soft. The texture of the material is really nice." When she tried it while lying on her back, she praised it, saying, "It feels so good. I can't help but want to close my eyes. It's so gentle, like I'm being wrapped up in a warm embrace. I feel like I might fall asleep (laughs)."
Next, a pressure distribution meter was attached to the new product to check whether the load on the body was distributed while sleeping. Once again, Maomi Yuuki lay on her back, and the measurement results were displayed on the screen, showing that her body pressure was evenly distributed. Shinagawa expressed his relief at the result, saying, "I'm relieved." He expressed his joy, saying, "We use a gradation support system, so we were particular about providing firm support in the right places to distribute body pressure regardless of body type, so I'm happy." He then told the lying Maomi Yuuki, "Please keep sleeping like this until morning (laughs). I think the news will spread tomorrow with the story 'Maomi Yuuki fell asleep during the show'," which drew laughter from the audience.
In the second half of the presentation, Yuuki, who is also a Pilates instructor, demonstrated "Simple exercises that can be easily done on the bed". The cause of back pain is stiffness in the hip joints and overuse of the hips due to the thoracic vertebrae being full. "(Lying on your back) hold your legs and bring them towards you. Don't try to arch your back, lean your body against the mattress, relax your shoulders, and stretch the iliopsoas muscles that are woven into the hip joints. Breathing is very important, so relax as if you were getting ready to go to sleep, close your eyes, and relax. From there, stand on the other leg and place your foot so that your outer ankle is on top of your knee, and bend it. This is a buttocks stretch. If your glutes are stiff, your back is likely to hurt. Instead of fighting the stiffness in your buttocks, accept the stiffness and stretch it while relaxing, and you will feel better," she said.
He then introduced us to a prone exercise, saying, "Bend your elbows and place your hands on the ground, then (from a prone position) stretch the top of your head and the tips of your toes, while pushing lightly with the palms of your hands to raise your body up. Once you feel more comfortable, continue straightening your elbows and stretching all the way up to your waist. Rather than just stretching your waist, imagine the neck coming out of a turtle's shell."
Yuki, who works as a TV personality and Pilates instructor, is planning to move to Malaysia in August, considering her children's educational environment. The reason for this is that "I wanted my children to experience education in a country other than Japan for a few years, and I myself have always wanted to experience it."
What she would like to bring to Malaysia is "condiments such as furikake and dashi that suit my taste. Also bedding, because I'm used to sleeping in a different bed, and I think I might get sick if I change my bedding. (The "Cloud Comfort Premium Mattress II") seems to be small enough to be transported, so I'd like to take it with me."
After the presentation, Yuuki was surrounded by reporters and asked about her current child-rearing situation. She said with a sad look on her face, "The children are at a different stage than when I had babies. My oldest daughter will soon be 11, and my youngest daughter will be 8. For better or worse, they don't pay much attention to their mother. They just dash off saying, 'I made a promise to play with my friends at the park nearby.' I feel like the time is approaching when they will have to let go of their parents."
However, it seems that the three of them still sleep together, saying, "They still have a bit of a baby vibe, and when they fall asleep they get warm. The children fall asleep first, so I get to sleep with my warm children tightly pressed against me, and I find myself thinking, 'How many more years I can do this, and how long will they continue to sleep with me?' I want to sleep together all three of us forever, but I think every day that it won't last forever." She accepts reality and says with a smile, "My children are still warmer and more toasty than any hot water bottle, and they help me fall asleep."
